Fifth Annual Auction
Plans are underway for The Child Care and Learning Center’s Fifth Annual Auction, according to auction coordinators Joan Platt and Teresa Preston. The annual benefit auction will be held at the Sperryville Indoor Antique Flea Market on Saturday, July 6 beginning at 10 a.m. Ar, thur and Peggy Smith, owners of the Market, are donating space for the auction, and John Walker Jenkins is contributing his services as auctioneer.
The theme of this year’s auction is “Our Dream Coming True.” The non-profit Center’s dream owning their own facility, specially designed for the child care and educational services they provide, is becoming a reality in the near future. The Center owns five acres fronting on Route 211 near Washington. Construction on the new facility will begin after Groundbreaking Ceremonies on May 27.
The new building is a result of nine years of work on the part of the Center’s staff, Board members and supporters. The funds from the July 6 Auction will help maintain the scholarship program for needy children. The Auction is the Center’s largest annual fundraiser.
Local businesses, as well as businesses in adjoining counties, have already been contacted for contributions of services or goods, and the Auction Committee is now seeking items from individuals in the local community and adjoining areas.
Items for the Silent Auction will be displayed in the following groupings: antiques, recreation and sports, food and restaurants, travel, household furnishings, lawn and garden and children’s corner. A Live Auction will follow the Silent Auction. The Center will gladly accept any items in good condition. Contributions are tax-deductible, and the donor will be provided with a receipt for donations of goods or services.
