This game was amazing. Nobody, I mean nobody, thought Rappahannock’s baseball team even had a chance last Friday night against top ranked and undefeated (10 - 0) Manassas Park. Prior to the game, the Panthers’ level of confidence was near zero. They just wanted to get the thing over with.
But by the end of the game, the Panthers were singing a different tune, loudly. And they had good reason. r.'hey '■ame out on top of hitting showd wn with a polished and talented team from Manassas Park, who will probably win the league championship with little difficulty. Manassas Park does not lose often. Rappahannock’s coach Don Dawson recalled only 3 or 4 Cougar losses in the past 3 or 4 years. However good they are, one thing is for sure, they bit the dust on Friday night.
Dawson called the game “the biggest upset in sports since I’ve been here.” With a lead that changed three times and a total of 15 runs scored, the game also had to rank among the most thrilling ever played in the county.
The game started off the way it was supposed to, with Manassas Park jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead. That was in the first inning, and those runs were scored in the blink of any eye. The rout was on.
