tradictory to the success of the striper in freshwater. It is the failure to succeed in the sea, where without help or hindrance of man they had continued to come and go from freshwater to saltwater for millions of generations.

For the last 15 years the East Coast, and most notably the Chesapeake Bay and it tributaries, has seen an every decreasing number of stripers returning to spawn. Various reasons for this are given including industrial pollution, siltation in the spawning areas, and the ever increasing pressure of the commercial and foreign netting operations.
