Still, this will be the first time that the statewide ticket of either party has included a black or a woman. Some fear that having both a black and a woman on the ballot the first time out would be more than a bit much for the average voter in the conservative Virginia electorate.
If any of this has disturbed Terry, it has not been evident from the deliberate manner with vhich she has developed her ampaign.
While the oratorical artillery has been booming over the gubernatorial nomination, and party strategists have been quietly trying to decide whether the Wilder candidacy will be fatal to the entire Democratic ticket, Terry has been quietly moving about the state forging alliances, raising money and planning her fall campaign.
The nominations will be formally bestowed when the Democrats hold their state convention in the Richmond Coliseum on June 7-8.
Terry’s opponent is expected to be Del. W. R. “Buster” O’Brien of Virginia Beach, who has only token opposition for the GOP attorney general’s nomination.
