largest C&P projects ever in northern Virginia, will serve initially about 35,700 customers.

C&P Manager Bill White pointed out that the company has earmarked some $28 million of its budget to make massive improvements to its switching capabilities in central Virgninia this year.

C&P plans to install six digital ESSs, and 14 RSMs. The systems range in cost from $424,000 for an RSM in The Plains to be installed in May, to the March installation of a $5 million ESS in Richmond.

White added that C&P will also install 60 miles of lightguide cable in the area as links between switching centers in Richmond, Petersburg and Dinwiddie. The total cost of the lightguide projects will be about $4.2 million.

Budget reviews are conducted throughout the year to make any necessary adjustments. Economic conditions and customer demand can create a need to update the proposed budget figure, or to reschedule a project.
