Rappahannock Elementary School will get $609,000 from the RJR-Nabisco Foundation over the next three years to develop and implement interactive computerized instruction in science, math, social studies and English for fourth grade.
RJR-Nabisco announced Tuesday that Rappahannock Elementary School and Carl Sandburg Intermediate School in Alexandria were the two winners in Virginia for the coming year. Fourteen grants were awarded nationwide.
The grants are part of the company’s Next Century Schools competition to fund innovative programs in education. More than 1,100 schools entered this year’s competition for $9 million.
At Tuesday night’s School Board meeting School Superintendent David Gangel gave credit to the staff for “pulling together” to develop the grant proposal. “It was a true team effort,” he said. He noted that the application had been supported by the countv. Potomac
