The Virginia Department of Waste Management has approved the Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan submitted by the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission (PDC-9) for several area localities. The plan is one of 22 recently approved by the Commonwealth.
Legislation passed by the General Assembly in 1989 mandated that every county, city and town either individually or regionally draft a solid waste management plan which would meet guidelines established by state statutes and regulations of the Department of Waste Management for source reduction, reuse, recycling, incineration and landfilling.
