New co-advisor Suzanne Wolfe accompanied the girls to the city for the first time, while Lee Buratti, advising the “Talisman” for the sixth year, attended the executive sessions of the convention.
Mrs. Buratti, as advisor of a Crown nominee and a judge for CSPA, was asked to be a presenter at the conference. Assisted by “Talisman” staff members Alison Martin and Lyon Martin, Mrs. Buratti’s class, “Creativity: the Challenge— Seeing the Invisible” highlighted methods of soliciting, judging, rewriting, and editing poetry.
• Wakefield-Marshall teacher Lee Buratti attended an advanced placement conference for heads of English departments on March 6. The conference, held at the Embassy Row Hotel in Washington, D.C., covered changes in the English AP testing, suggestions for future procedures, questions and conundrums concerning AP testing, and proposals for AP English curriculum.
Presenters included college level professors who contribute to the creating of the exams, experienced scorers, Canandian representatives new to the AP system, and directors of the Educational Testing Service (ETS) which oversees the validity and statistics of the AP testing.
