The Virginia Mayors’ Institute, said Michael Chandler, Cooperative Extension community planning specialist at Virginia Tech, was developed to provide municipal mayors with a comprehensive overview of mayoral duties, powers, and responsibilities.
In addition, the two-day institute gave participating mayors a chance to learn practical strategies in such areas as communication and meeting management skills; conflict management and planning skills; leadership styles; and associated relationships that involve colleagues, professional staff, the media, and citizens.
