BLACKSBURG —In today’s hustle and bustle, few people have time to stop and smell the roses, let alone plant them.
That’s why lowmaintenance landscaping is a popular idea among a large group of homeowners, said a Virginia Tech horticulturist.
“It’s definitely a trend,” said Paul Smeal, Virginia Cooperative Extension horticulture specialist at Tech. “Easy to grow, easy to maintain — that’s all my people are looking for.”
Diane Relf, Extension consumer horticulture specialist at Tech, said a wide variety of choices are available for those who appreciate attractive landscaping but don’t have a lot of time to spend on it.
