It’s important to start on a small scale. Remember, the world is a much larger place through the eyes of a child. Designate a small spot in your vegetable or flower garden. Or, if you’re in an apartment or townhouse, designate a clay pot or planter for your child.
After you demonstrate how to plant seeds, give your child free reign to plant things his way. This freedom encourages children to learn and develope a design sense. You’ll be surprised how creative kids can be.
If you and your child are planting flowers, sow marigold, four o’clock or sunflower seeds; these annuals are easy to grow. Kids tend to like sunflowers because they can grow taller than your kids themselves, and when the flowers mature, the seeds can be harvested, dried and added to the bird feeder.
