shurbs or perrenial flower beds. To begin, clear away all surrounding weeds or grass. Place strips of fabric over the entire area, making sure it is as close to the plants as possible. Trim away any excess. Then, cover the fabric with an attractive layer of gravel, pebbles or wood nuggets.
For vegetable gardens, where cool soil is an asset, landscape fabrics are also made with a white surface. Black on the soil side and white on top, this fabric has two functions. The white side reflects sunlight, aiding photosynthesis and warding off harmful insects that prey on the dark undersides of vegetable plants. Meanwhile, the dark side filters sunlight and blocks weed growth underneath.
