grasses that enjoy the darker side of life. Rough bluegrass enjoys damp shade while fine fescues prefer dry shade. Both were developed specifically for growing well in the shade and both are quick to establish.
Planting other types of grasses in shaded areas may leave the lawn vulnerable to attacks by insects and disease and the grass may not be strong enough to put up the fight for sunlight, water and nutrients.
Having a great lawn, however, is not a simple as just planting the right grass seed. A shade-tolerant landscape needs special care and maintenance to ensure that grass plants stay strong and healthy. Following are a few rules of thumb for maintaining a shaded lawn suggested by lawn care experts.
Water infrequently: As shaded lawns tend to stay moist longer than sunny lawns, water them deeply but infrequently. Allow the area to dry before watering again.
