Town polls
on street lights

Members of the Washington Town Council decided last week to try to find out which street light the residents want by sending out a survey in the water bills.
After holding a public hearing and receiving very few comments, the council has been unable to decide between a light fixture recommended by the Architectural Review Board, one recommended by lighting committee member Charles Eldred and the cobra light Potomac Edison routinely installs for street lighting.
Either of the alternatives to the cobra light will be more expensive, the council was told.
Mayor Dean Morehouse asked if the survey could say what each of the alternatives will cost.
Treasurer Brad Fisher suggested the survey point out that if Potomac Edison installs the cobra arm fixtures it has installed in other towns, the least expensive alternative, Washington will be as bright as Culpeper or Manassas. He said he would like to continue to be able to see the stars.
TowtNrttomey Frank Reynolds noted that Potomac Edison atesn’t seem to be in a hurry to take out the existing incandescent fixtures. He suggested the town join with other small towns in requesting that Potomac Edison stock and bill for 50-watt bulbs as well as 100watt bulbs.
