After nearly three years in storage, Landrum brought the pipe-organ’s crates to their house. The crates were carried into the basement through a ground-level garage to be unpakced.
“I brought the pipes up one by one to be cleaned and put into the organ. There are three fluorescent lights on a single switch down there. They kept flickering on an off all the time I was unloading,” Landrum says. “They had never done that before and they’ve never done it since. Somehow, Christine was acknowledging that 1 was putting her pipeorgan back together."
“I just finished fitting it together two weeks ago. Most of the work was done in the last six months. It was a fantastic feeling. It really was. It’s an emotional experience investing so much time and effort pulling it out of the church and restoring and erecting it,” Landrum says.
Landrum rewired the myriad electrical connections between the cosole and the casement. The electro-pneumatic organ operates on 12 volts and the console’s keys complete a circuit that activiates a solenoid, which lets air go out through a pipe, creating the musical sound.
