Yet just as importantly, the people of this county will make a decision also critical to the future of their children — whether or not to have an elected school board. That will not be a personal commentary on the present school board, as some have perceived it, but an assertion of what was once a fundemental American right — the right to choose who will represent you in shaping your child’s future. And only a small step at that.
We have heard discussion in the political arena this year about the question of school choice — the Republicans have a plan to allow choice among public and private schools with the aid of an obviously inadequate $1,000 voucher, while the Democrats allow even less latitude with the choice only among public schools.
