U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Adminstrator William K. Reilly endorsed October 1992 as National Car Care Month.
The Agency is joining several public and private organization in an effort to promote consumer awareness of proper vehicle maintenance, Reilly said, “which is essential to ensuring clean air for all Americans to breathe.
“The 1990 Amendments to the Clean Air Act introduced cleaner transportation fuels into the market,” he said, “tightened vehicle emission standards and expanded the vehicle inspection and maintenance program. These are rmyor steps forward in cleaning this nation’s air.
“Wherever I go, people ask what they can do to help improve the environment. One of the easiest ways is to maintain their cars properly so they don’t contribute to the air pollution problem,” Reilly said.
EPA said pollution control measures have drastically reduced emissions per vehicle.
