(loudness). Two different sets of stops serve both the prat-organ and the swell-organ. There also are stops for the pedal-organ — the pedals operated bv the feet, of course —which supplies the bass sound.

The other pipes vary in length up to the height. The higher notes are created by pipes made of well-seasoned pine. The spotted metal pipes are of tin and lead.

Inside, the casement looks like the backstage of a tiny theater, with the wind chests supporting the upright pipes and the various ranks and fdes of pipes arranged in a tight, efficient manner. Landrum plays "Amazing Grace” and invites a visitor to listen from inside the casement.

Its sound is deep, resonant and honest, much superior to any home entertainment center. A distant memory of going to church returns, and the listener recalls perhaps the only thing he enjoyed about that practice.

Landrum, a native of San Diego, has lived in Virginia for 15 years. He lived nar Front Royal for 10 years communting to a computer firm in Northern Virginia. He moved to Rappahannock when he and Jamieson started Blue Ridge Technologies, which employs IS in Flint Hill and has a sales office on the West Coast.
