Ask about the facility’s industry and consumer affiliations. For example, a business that is a member of ASA has agreed to uphold the association’s Code of Ethics, which sets the standards for professionalism in the automotive service industry.
These members can be identified by the red, white and blue ASA sign. In addition, check with consumer organizations to determine the facility’s reputation in handling consumer complaints.
Expect the automotive service facility to be neat, clean and well-organized. The flow of existing work should be almost unnoticeable. Under normal circumstances, the business should handle customers and vehicles with litle or no delay.
Note whether the employees are helpful and courteous. This will give you an idea of how you will be treated throughout the repair of your vehicle.
Ask the business to provide a list of references and be prepared to follow up with these customers.
Stability is also important in any business. Therefore, you should ask questions such as how long the facility has been in business, how long has it been at its current location, and whether it regularly performs the type of repair that the vehicle needs. Remember too, that some businesses specialize in repairs for a certain vehicle make and model.
