Each October, thousands of motorists in U.S. cities take their vehicles through free inspection lanes.
This valuable service is provided by consumer groups, government and automotive organizations to remind owners of the importance of proper vehicle maintenance.
Time and manpower limitations usually preclude a brake inspecton, other than a visual check of brake fluid level.
The month-long campaign does, however, encourage motorists to have their vehicles checked for safety, efficiency and dependability.
To this end, the Car Care Council offers a five-point brake safety questionnaire. This is no substitute for a thorough braking system inspection, but serves as a reminder of work that may need to be done.
Answer yes, no or maybe (not sure) to each of the following:
(1) I can keep pressure on my brake pedal indenfinitely and the pedal will not “fade” to the floor, (yes) (no) (maybe).
