Building additions to both schools would cost considerably less than building a middle school, expansion consultant Lowell Baughan told the School Board and Board of Supervisors Tuesday night.
Mr. Baughan of Baughan and Baukhages architectural firm in Luray was hired by the school system to study alternative solutions to school crowding conditions, particularly at the elementary school.
The firm was hired to study growth in the schools and project costs for solving space needs with additional modular units, additions to existing schools, and building a new middle school for fifth through eighth grades.
According to the study, additional space is needed at the elementary school immediately. To provide seven more modular classrooms would cost $284,900.
