Mr. Reynolds also reported that the Planning Commision had decided the best way to deal with uses of the new Town Hall would be to exempt the town from its zoning ordinance and simply comply with restrictions on the deed that conveyed the property. The town hall is in a residential district. The deed of the former library building from the county to the town requires that the building be used for “public purposes.”
Mr. Reynolds said the council should draft an amendment to the ordinance exempting the town from the ordinance and hold a public hearing.
The town’s Planning Commission is working on a general rewriting of the zoning ordinance. Member Susan Parrish asked if they could have $1,200 for consulting with the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District on changes in state law that need to be considered in rewriting the ordinance.
Mr. Morehouse asked Mrs. Parrish to meet with Mr. Fisher and see if money for such a purpose can be found in the budget without a budget amendment. He also suggested she contact the Virginia Municipal League for advice.
Mr. Fishef announced that bids for the new water lines in the streets will be opened Oct. 29.
