“The casement is 14 feet high and 16 feet long and about five or six feet deep,” expalins Landrum. It is a handsome piece in light walnut. Three banks of fluted brass pipes, which are ornamental and don’t play, rise from about three feet up to above the casement.
He bought the organ in 1987 and stored in in a friend’s vacant building near Flint Hill unitl his home was completed two years ago.
Landrum, 39, a collector of keyboad instruments since a teenager, found the organ by chance on a visit to Chicago. The acquisition from a Protestant church in Batavia, 111., answered a life-long dream to own a large pipe organ and also brought some curious happenings that Craig ikes to attribute to the ghost of the ady who the instrument was dedcatedto.
