Bush, Clinton, Perot

It seems fair to conclude that the Presidential vote just ahead ranks among the most troubling decisions for most people here in modem times, party lines notwithstanding. None of the three candidates is, to us, an easy choice, but choice now must come. „ The most painful finding has been that for all * of his large contributions over the past quarter.. century to ending the Cold War, President George Bush has not shown himself to have the perception or agenda for the economically driven issues of the ” post-Soviet world.

While he helped put away the threat of the Red Army, he has helped deliver an equally devastating economic threat to the nation, Red Ink. Time marches on.

Gov. Bill Clinton is clearly sensitive to the nation's new mood and would bring changes. One large trouble with Mr. Clinton is that his promising rhetoric in this campaign invites more questions than it answers, and leaves us vaguely wandering through the fog on our basic money problems. Sen. Albert Gore Jr. is the most predictable part of this ticket, and here essentially on the environment.

The three top issues facing the nation now are ’ the economy, the economy and the economy. The $4 trillion debt, the boiling escalation of federal deficits and a government set in its way of taking in $3 and spending $4.

The American dilemma, then, is not so easy as accepting a Clinton election with the returning Democratic Congress, for our surging economic problems have been created over the past 12 years as much by the Democratic-controlled legislative branch as the Republican-controlled White House, together failing in good times to put the United States on a regimen of less consumption, less debt and more savings and investment in the future.
