While the number of new home building permits has decreased over the past six years, there are signs that the home construction industry may be picking up in Rappahannock.

In the first six months of this year, the building office issued 17 building permits for new house construction. From July through September another 17 were issued, and six were issued in the first two weeks in October alone.

From 1987 through 1991, permits for new home construction went down each year: 88 in 1987, 81 in 1988, 74 in 1989, 62 in 1990/ and 47 in 1991. So far this year there have
