Rappahannock County High School is preparing for an unusual Homecoming this weekend.
With no football team, the Homecoming has recently been tied to the fall soccer team. This year, however, soccer has been switched to a spring sport because of difficulty filling a full schedule in the fall.
There is a county club team for those 16 and younger in a league made up of mostly Fauquier County teams. The Rappahannock team will play a team sponsored by the Warrenton JCs Saturday at the Homecoming game.
Although the club team is not, strictly speaking, a high school team, coach Uli Maeyer notes that the spring high school team will be mostly the same players. So far the team has a record of one win, one loss and one tie.
“I’m trying to build the Rappahannock players for the high school spring season,” Coach Maeyer said. “They are making real good progress. We had a great turnout, and I like their enthusiasm.”
Coach Maeyer credited the county soccer league for helping to develop the players on the team. “We’re getting the first players produced by the county soccer league and their coaches,” he said. “The results have been positive. The young players have
