While watching the ebb and flow of the presidential (and other political) doings, misdoings and undoings, I wondered if the Greeks had a God for watching and commenting on man’s reactions during the course of political campaigns.
Perhaps it was Nemesis, a semi-God that pointed out when the hero’s hubris started showing and meted punishment known as catharsis.
I believe that for today, I am going to play the part. I need a name. Nemesis would be a good one except she was a she. (An aside observation, females have not been treated as equals since the early Greeks and Romans, could one wonder if Christianity did them in?)
I am leaning toward “Achilles” so that way I will be accepted but as somewhat flawed. (Blame Stockdale for all this.) As Achilles I am merely observing the human reaction, or opinions to the political performance, not that of the politician but the voterp who seal their own fate every four years, or every chance they get for no good reasons, or if not, theqfor some very bad reasons. \
As Achilles I have no opinions as an observer, just aim to present the facts. \
As pointed out by our short s term editor, the Lunch Burish is a good cross section of the population and my observation in that venue should be typical of a Rappahannockee male. If there is an equivalent female group I would appreciate their confirmations or contradictions:
