At the high school this year the major changes will be in class offerings. Advanced placement U.S. history will be offered for the first time this year. Nineteen juniors have signed up to take the class.
AP history teacher Jeanne Grymes said that the class will prepare students to take the AP exam. A passing grade can earn a students up to one year of college credit. The class will be “more in depth” than the regular junior-year American history class, she said. The students will be expected to “critically examine” the issues of history. Besides the college level textbook, the students will be expected to read two secondary textbooks, one a collection of primary source readings, and two novels: Rolvagg’s Gicuits in the Earth and Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath.
