Following is a list of locally connected nominees at the first of three stages of nominations.
The second stage of nominations close on Sept. 3, while the final stage closes on Sept. 29.
The initial two fees total $250 a piece, while a bigger stake of $1,000 is neccessary to become eligible in the final stage.
Alternatively, if an owner or trainer does not trust in the quality of his horse or does not have a feel for what his competition is going to do, he may wait until the final stage and make a supplementary nomination. The fee for that is $3,500.
Horses which win the accompanying Sport of Kings maiden events this fall will be fully nominated to next year’s novice series. The races for nonwinners are therefore hotly contested.
