COLORS — (also silks, racing silks) The jacket and cap worn by riders to designate the ownership of the horse. Colors for flat racing are registered with the Jockey Club to avoid duplication. Steeplechase and point-to-point owners need not register silks, but many do to protect their choice. Colors which show up well against green background are most often chosen - orange, red
