Picnic Meeting Planned

The Rappahannock Historical Society will hold its annual picnic meeting at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10 at The Maples, historic home of Newbill and Carol Miller in Washington. Since the library’s First Friday Meeting is in conflict, and some members may like to attend both meetings, the society will start its program early.

The program will include a history of the house and its Miller family, and a guided tour of the lower floor and grounds, with a very brief business meeting.

The meeting is for members only and their houseguests, but membership or renewal is available by paying your dues at the door-$15 for a single membership and $20 for a family membership. Bring a covered dish to share and what you wish to drink. Setups, coffee and iced tea will be provided, as well as tableware. Providing your own table and chair is a good idea.

Adult Tennis Tournament

Rapppahannock County Park is sponsoring an adult mixed doubles tennis tournament Sept 20-26. Entry fee is $10 per team, possible ANB levels. Call Jean Lillard 675-7171 days or 675-3670 evenings.

Home Educators' Picnic

All Homeschooling families in Rappahannock are invited to a pot lunch family picnic at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12. For more information call 987-8267.

Fundraising Event

The Friends of the Rappahannock Library will be having a fundraising event entitled, “A Novel Affair” at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18 at The Meadows, the home of Edward and Martha Barton in Washington.

The event, featuring a light buffet and dancing, is designed around a literary motif and all guests are encouraged to come as their favorite literary character. All proceeds will go towards the replensihment and enhancement of the adult and children’s classics collection of the library. Tickets are $25 per person.
