The proposed amendment to forbid farmers the option of applying sludge as a fertilizer to their fields has been the focus of much discussion regarding its safety, its benefits to farmers, its support by virtually all state and federal regulatory agencies and university agronomists, and yet — the deeply-felt bias, fear and revulsion against sludge held by many people.
