7. Weight the entry carries. Depends on age, experience of horse and rider and prior wins. “Bugs” or asterisks designate rider allowances in addition to horse allowances. Three bugs mean 10 pounds are claimed for the rider, two mean seven are claimed and one bug means the rider carries five pounds less than the horse was assigned, because of his own relative inexperience. (Bugs are not honored in handicap events.)
