Two of three rich hurdle events in the National Steeplechase Association 3-YearOld Champion Series will be run in the Commonwealth, affording local racegoers the rare opportunity to scope out next year’s crop of potential stakes runners this fall.
For the second year in a row, 3-year-old ’chasers have a chance to shine in their own division, with the sophomores racing to split the $10,000 bonus pool paid to the horses which run best in the series ’chases.
“The series is compared to the Triple Crown of flat racing, as it brings together the best of the new crop,’’ said Charlie Colgan, vice-president of the National Steeplechase Association. “The series brings along the stars of the future for ’chasing.”
Langhome Bond, chairman of the International Gold Cup races at Great Meadow joined forces with Gary Baker of the Virginia Fall Races, John Cushman of the Colonial Cup and Bill Gallo of NSA, to organize the events.
