The Workspace for choreographers was established in 1991 as a private foundation that exists primarily to provide rehearsal space to choreographers who are doing explorative work.
It evolved out of a need felt keenly by Sally Nash, a local choreographer, who had spent the last 18 years mining the county’s resources for performing artists’ rehearsal space and felt that very few of the people who wanted help had any realistic idea of how much time in a rehearsal space is needed to create original work.
In 1989 the studio was built by Ms. Nash, and in the winter of 1992 a guest cottage was added which allows choreographers to bring members of their companies and to stay comfortably for up to one month.
One of the high points of the Workspace’s activities is occasional performances by the choreographers who use it most regularly. Sharon Wyrrick has worked here since the beginning and is presenting a program that is varied and extensive, a serious exposure to her artistic and creative work.
A discussion with the artists follows each performance. The audience space is limited, so call ahead for reservations at 987-9234. Tickets are $8 for adults.
