Cantaloupe-Look for a cantaloupe with no sign of a stem. If the cantaloupe has been pick at the right time, the stem usually breaks cleanly and completely from the vine. Check the netting, shape, and color, too. Choose a cantaloupe with evenly distributed netting and a nice round shape. Golden-colored melons are at the peak of ripeness; green ones will ripen in a couple of days if they’re kept at room temperature. A mild melon aroma is a sign of ripeness, too.
