Friends, neighbors, concerned citizens—all came out last Wednesday evening to help raise over $4,000 to help the Robey family of Castleton recover from a devastating fire that recently destroyed their home. Both Janet and Terry Robey work for the Chateauville Foundation in Castleton. The occasion was an impromptu concert organized by some 50 up and coming young musical stars at the Chateauville Foundation’s Residency for Young Artists who volunteered—along with Maestro Lorin Maazel and his wife, Dietlinde TurbanMaazel—to help the young couple.
The Robey benefit concert was a perfect introduction to the community for the group that was in residence at the Castleton Farm for the Chateauville Foundation’s opera performance this past weekend of “The Rape of Lucretia.’’
Those attending were treated to an incomparable musical program that consisted largely of popular Broadway show tunes, a poetry reading, a clarinet quartet written by Mozart, and a surprise performance by the Maestro himself. The concert ended appropriately with “Amazing Grace,” the well-know hymn sung by the entire company and joined in by the audience.
