crumbling, hand-laid native fieldstone fireplace and foundation, Curry unearthed clues to the home’s age, including a stone lintel that likely topped the front door, and a nearby earthen cellar she believes was topped by a wooden icehouse, long lost to time and weather.
Curry pointed out handhewn chestnut beams which have survived three centuries, much of it exposed to the elements as the house fell into disrepair 75 or more years ago.
She also uncovered a 50foot-deep well a dozen feet from the house, and a nearby depression that was probably the location of the home’s outhouse.
