It is a heavy burden to be the one who must tell relatives, friends, neighbors, and business associates of the deceased of the news of his or her death. The person on whom this responsibility falls may want to create a list and divide it with someone else of equal standing in the family. In any case, it may be a good idea to have someone else present when making the calls. Consideration should also be given to the fact that, as difficult as it is to disseminate such news, it may be more traumatic to receive it. With this in mind, it may be preferable to deliver the news of death in person when circumstances allow.
