“The terrain around Avon Hall is not that favorable, so we’re fortunate that we got a site that works,” he said.
Leggett said a recent environmental assessment of the site also concluded that the area is a good fit for the facility. Several state and federal agencies have 30 days to review the assessment, the mayor said.
Any objections those agencies raise will be filed with the assessment when it is submitted to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. The matter will be subject to a public hearing in the future, Leggett said.
The town also needs to pay $600 to the DEQ to register for a nitrogen and phosphorus discharge permit.
“I think we’ve got a reasonable shot at finishing this in 2008” if no complications arise, Leggett said.

The Town Council will continue its April meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Town Hall to hold a work session on the Washington’s fiscal 2008 budget.
