Facebook friends

Tommy Pendleton, one of Hilscher’s Rappahannock classmates, began a tribute group on Facebook, a popular social networking Web site.

The site includes several photos of Hilscher as Pendleton asks members to post their thoughts on a message board. The online group has attracted responses from many of her Rappahannock classmates as well as a number of students from Virginia Tech lamenting the loss of their friend.

At about 4 p.m. on Tuesday, an outraged Pendleton posted his thoughts about the media contacting him and his friends for more information.

“I’m pissed at the reporters and I’ll leave it at that," he wrote. “I have been contacted by many news agencies and frankly I’m sick of how they butcher her life. I’m in enough pain as it is." Media descends on
