Special to the Rappahannock News
Through the generosity of individual donors and businesses, and an anonymous challenge grant, the RCHS Band Boosters were able to raise over $19,0001ast spring to purchase 65 new band uniforms for the award-winning Rappahannock County High School Band. At the time, it was thought that 65 uniforms would be an ample amount to clothe the 48 band members as well as future members.
The tremendous success of our students, led by popular director Matt Yonkey, has created a 32% growth in students and a need for 10 additional' uniforms. Therefore, the Band Boosters are turning to the business community for help in raising $7000 to outfit the band, which will include $3500 for future program growth.
The band boosters are also selling raffle tickets toward this end. The tickets are being sold for $5 a ticket or $50 for a booklet of 10 tickets. The first prize is $1000 with a second prize of $500.
The drawing will be held Saturday, April 28, during the annual Coffee House at RCES which starts at 5:00pm. A delicious dinner served by the band students performing as wait staff and a wonderful array of local entertainment will round out this popular evening held for a great cause. Tickets may be purchased in advance from band booster members, or by contacting Sally Havstad, RCHS Band Booster Treasurer, at 987-9342.
Donations may also be sent to RCHS Band Boosters do Matt Yonkey, Director of Bands, Rappahannock County High School, 12576 Lee Highway, Washington, VA 22747.
