A mid-day structure fire ripped through a twostory frame house in Washington Monday, destroying a family home and leaving four homeless.
According to Washington Fire Company Chief Roger Roach, the fire fn Leonard and Frances Campbell’s U.S. 211-522 home next to the Hampton Inn may have been caused by an electrical problem.
Mr. and Mrs. Campbell were home, outside, at the time the blaze started, about 12:30 p.m., said Chief Roach. ^
“The owner was in the yard when he heard a pop. He went up to the front door to get out a purse with $500 and he couldn’t get in,” said Chief Roach.
By the time firefighters arrived on the scene the fire had spread throughout the house. Chief Roach estimated that it only took 10 minutes from ignition before the house was completely engulfed. Water from Gibson Wharton’s pond, about 100 yards away,
