Team coaches Wayland and Flinchum believe by playing against doctors, lawyers and professional adults from all walks of life, students are more prepared for the real game when their oldest opponent would be no older than 18.

“We’ve had a couple freeze-ups before the cameras,” said Mr. Flinchum, adding students “practice enough against adults, when they see a 16-year-old across from them, they are not intimidated.”

The team could be on the silver screen anywhere from one to five times. First time out eliminates their return.

The six honored students this year are Chris and James Stone, Alice Reeves, J Swofford, Brian Clark and Justin Day.

In their first match Oct. 10 against Western Albermarle High School of Charlottesville, the Panthers pulled a major upset, winning 185-170.
