At present, neighboring counties are not allowing septic tank effluent to be dumped in their public sewage treatment plants and many pumpers who formerly serviced the county— such as Paul Ruffner of Warren County—are no longer willing to cross county boundaries.
Fauquier County is one of the few' counties that offers a septage treatment facility, at the Remington Water Sewer Authority on the Rappahannock River.
“We are not taking any outside septage,” at present, according to plant manager Barney Durrette. That facility only treats Fauquier County’s septage.
In order to verify that septage does indeed come from within a given county, dumping stations require addresses, telephone numbers and record the number gallons pumped.
