To show how desperate Mr. Allen has been to find any evidence that Ms. Slaughter is—“oh, no”—a liberal, he dredged up a study Ms. Slaughter proposed, not an actual bill, that would have taxed bags of trash going to the local landfill. Mr. Allen himself endorsed a fee on old tires. Frankly, we like both ideas, but if that’s all Mr. Allen could come up with, Ms. Slaughter must be the fiscal conservative she says she is.
Finally, there’s another factor favoring Ms. Slaughter: She’s a Madison County native with friends and family in Rappahannock. She won’t forget us in Washington, where Mr. Allen may be too busy networking to attend to the needs of tiny jurisdictions like Rappahannock. Ms. Slaughter gets the nod.
