The faculty advisor for Talisman was Lee Buratti of Haymarket.

In the essay section, critics commented on the “meticulously crafted” essay on W.B. Yeats by alumna Lee Daugherty of Boyce.
The art and photography pieces were also commended by the judges. They commented that the photos by alumnus Florian Dengel of Front Royal were “fine.” Judges also added that “there is variety and excellence in the artwork.”
Talisman was awarded an additional 50 points in the creativity category for the ability of the magazine staff to produce a magazine “whose whole effect is greater than the sum of its parts.” The critique closed with the comment by the judge that “Talisman is a beautiful book, a celebration of the creative process.”
