I’m sure you’ve noticed the roadside stands in Rappahannock County the past few weeks loaded with baskets of apples and jugs of cider.

Colonists from Europe brought with them the “know-how” for making apple juice and apple cider. Apple juice is natural, unfermented juice, often misnamed sweet cider. Fresh apple juice stays sweet for several days under refrigeration. Cider is fermented or partially fermented apple juice.

Freezing instructions

Cider can be frozen. Simply pour out about 1/2 cup to allow for expansion when juice freezes; replace cap on jug and freeze. When ready to use defrost and shake well before serving.
