No, no, no,

not a liberal

To the Editor:

Heavens! I had no idea that travel today was so dangerous! I leave town for five days to accompany my husband to a ship’s reunion, and the next thing I know I’m being referred to in the public print as a liberal! No, no, no, no, no, not by anybody’s political definition, although it’s darling of them to want me, and I am delighted that Mr. Bird has finally realized the truth of what I have been saying all along, that tax revenues, all tax revenues, are “other people’s money.” ’ As Mr. Bird really should know, the Constitution allows the Congress, and only the Congress, to originate spending bills, and “allowing” that bunch to spend money is like “allowing” a happy dog to wag its tail. There’s no stopping it, and a liberal press is delighted to label the resulting debt with the name of the sitting president, who has to put up with their foolishness. “O’Neill deficit” or “Foley deficit” is more like it. Until the president can veto part of the congressional shopping list without vetoing all of it, we, the taxpaying public, will have to put up with the expensive situation.

The answer, of course, is to give the Republican president a Republican Congress. While you are voting for Bob Darby, while you are voting for Kevin Miller (or Ed Robb), exercise your mind and not your fingers and vote for George Allen, too.
