He said club participation offers students “a practical application to problem solving” where they can take on “leadership roles. This is where they learn how hard it is to control a group, be a leader and be in control. ”
Using the example of the senior class meeting, Mr. Toth explained the elected class representatives were given this first taste of “responsibility” as they conducted their first school meeting.
“There were a large number of ideas being tossed around,” he said, adding the leaders were “challenged as they kept control, yet kept the flow of ideas under control.”
“It teaches students that adult roles are not as easy as they appear,” he said, adding club participation allows students “to learn to be in charge.”
